Turtle Tree was thought up for two very special reasons:
1 - I am most drawn to and relate to turtles. The ever-lasting and slow pace of the turtle has been an animal and symbol that has spoken to me since childhood. Growing up with a chronic illness mean that I could never run like the other kids but know that I could still keep up with life. After all, as the tale goes: the turtle eventually beats the hare anyway. As a mindfulness practitioner, I value the turtle's pace and if they get tired, they just curl up into their homes. They teach us a lot about trying to out-run our problems: wherever you go there you are. Wherever they go, they are home.
2 - Trees have always been my friends since I was a little girl, hiding in the lilacs and other trees around my parents' place. Trees are protectors, providing our planet with oxygen and absorbing our carbon dioxide. They are the lungs of mother earth. Without them we perish. Trees have much to give us and we owe it to them to protect them. Like trees, human beings have the capacity to grow strong and tall, but not without growing down and deep. We must be anchored to withstand the storms, but without deep roots, we fall over.
Together the turtle and the tree guide me in all I need. That's how turtletree was born!
